Casting

Since 2006, Nick has worked as a casting director on Irish features (Kisses, Dollhouse, Life’s a Breeze, Love Eternal) and he did the Irish searches on UK/US productions (God’s Creatures, Calm With Horses, War Horse, ’71, The Guard).

He cast the Irish supporting roles for his colleague Shaheen Baig on feature film God’s Creatures starring Paul Mescal. Nick ran the Irish and child casting for Shaheen on Cathy Brady’s feature Wildfire. He cast all the Irish children on Shane Meadows’ CH4 drama series The Virtues, again for Shaheen Baig Casting.

Nick cast the voices on children’s TV animation series Ray of Sunshine for Daily Madness Productions and seanathe voices, children and adults, on Nicky Phelan’s new pre-school TV animation series Lu & the Bally Bunch for Brown Bag Films now available to watch on Cartoonito UK, CBC in Canada and TVNZ+ in New Zealand.

Nick also cast two RTE TV promos for Today with Claire Byrne and Drivetime.

In 2019, he was in Donegal and Kerry looking for new Gogglebox Ireland families, and casting TV commercials for Horse Racing Ireland and TAM (TV Audience Measurement) on behalf of director Ian Power.

Nick specialises in finding unknowns and non-actors through street casting, open auditions and workshops in schools, sports centres and workplaces.

He was first to cast Seána Kerslake and Ciarán McCabe (both in Dollhouse), Sam Keeley (The Other Side of Sleep) and found Kiljan Moroney (Calm with Horses), Michael Óg Lane (The Guard) and Corey McKinley (’71).

Nick’s first casting job was to find the child leads for Kisses and once he’d found Kelly O’Neill and Shane Curry, he was asked to cast the rest of the film.
